About this game
Cut the Wire turns the classic movie defusing scene into a game. Only one of the colored wires is the trap, and whoever cuts it sets off a cartoon explosion.
How to play
- Enter 2 to 12 players.
- The person named on screen taps a wire.
- After the snip, wait through the beeps for the result.
- If nothing happens, pass the device along. If it blows, that person is it.
How many wires?
The count is the number of players plus two, with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 9. The display at the top shows how many remain.
Ways to make it more fun
- Before cutting, explain why you chose that color. The less sense it makes, the better.
- Let the others coach you with advice like "the red one looks suspicious."
A note before you play
The explosion comes with a loud blast, long vibration, heavy screen shake and flashes. If you are sensitive to light or noise, mute the sound or pick another game. This is make-believe play with no connection to real explosives.
Is it fair?
The trap wire is chosen at random at the start and has nothing to do with color. No color is more dangerous than another, so picking red doesn't hurt your chances.
Frequently asked questions
Which color is most likely to blow?
Color has nothing to do with it. Every wire has the same odds.
What if only the last wire is left?
There is always a trap, so the last remaining wire must be it.
Can the explosion be toned down?
Yes. Turn on your device's reduced motion setting and the shake and flashes are removed.
